Reflecting on Blogging for Currins 547- Blog Post 8
Reflecting on the Journey Thus Far
In reflecting on my experience of blogging throughout this semester, it has been a very rewarding journey of entering the world of blogging. Just a few months ago at the beginning of the semester, the world of blogging seemed lightyears away and I could not imagine myself a part of it. However, when I began setting up my blog in one of the first class sessions, I started to see the possibilities that blog spaces provided for new modes of communication. With each week that passed, I became more comfortable speaking about the content of Currins 547 through my blog and playing with what my voice could be whilst "Blogging the Journey from Student to Teacher." In this final blog post, I will look back on the posts I've made for Currins 547 and determine the best of the best for different categories of my blog.
1. Professionalism: Reflecting on Young Writers and My Experiences as a Writing Coach
- When I think about professionalism in writing, it is usually correlated with being polite, direct, and concise. I chose my fifth blog post for this category because of my exploration into how receiving feedback from peers, coaches, and teachers affects the reception of feedback. I believe this exploration was very beneficial for me as I was able to parse out the differences, and I hope the connections made to reading and experience allow the reader to receive these benefits through my professional form of writing.
2. Multimodal Design: My Writing Coach Profile
- My second blog post, which included my writing coach profile, was a favorite of mine because I got another chance to share my selfie collage. I war so proud of my Jamboard collage and I remember being excited to post it to the worldwide web so people could see it (even if most viewers were my classmates in Currins 547). This post let me share pictures of myself and an image-based representation of my literacy journey while I introduced myself as a writing coach. While all blog posts we've made took full advantage of the blog format through the inclusion of images and links, this blog post was my favorite for multimodal design because it allowed me to express myself in new ways over different modes.
3. Creativity: The Process of Writing
- As I mentioned in this third blog post, creativity is something I have struggled with in my writing in blogs and out of them. However, in this post I was able to explore some of the reasoning behind my own writing process. This combination of personal introspection and new information from the readings gave me a new perspective on my own writing process and I was able to explore it in some exciting, creative ways.
4. Civic Engagement: Potentials and Pitfalls for Digital Media in the Urban ELA Classroom
- Although this was my first blog post, I think it accomplished a lot of the goals I was trying to reach in my blog. I was clearly excited about using the new format of blogs and I used that excitement to talk about an important topic: Using Digital Media in Urban ELA Classrooms. Digital media is important for kids to learn, not only as a practical skill but as a source of inspiration. In this blog post, I explored how urban classrooms are often forgotten in terms of using digital media and I explained the reasons I think it is an important need for all classrooms.
And the Blogscar goes to...
It is tough to pick just one blog deserving of the "People's Choice Award" because every blog I've seen this semester has accomplished our criteria for the award in some way or another. I chose Katie's blog because I found it to have a very strong voice and to be super engaging. While reading Katie's blog, it almost felt like talking to her because of her combination of humor. She also did a really nice job combining the new information from our course reading in while maintaining a really strong voice. Also, her images add to the humor in her voice which is always a nice touch. For those reasons, I have cast my vote toward Literary Lavris for the People's Choice Award Blogscar.
Hey Kimberly!
ReplyDeleteI also felt more comfortable with the blogging experience as the weeks progressed! At the beginning of the semester when we first began talking about and setting our blogs up I remember it was a fairly stressful thing that I worried I would never get the hang of. I think playing with one's voice, as you mentioned, was a great part of this blogging experience and think it could carry over to a classroom very well to help students find their voices!

Hey Kimberly! I also felt more comfortable blogging as the semester went on. And I also really liked doing the selfie mashup as it allowed us to show our faces to our classmates and also give them an idea of who we are as people. I definitely think that I will use those in my instruction in the future.
